Mine Backfill

Acti-Gel® 208 is a thixotropic material that suspends particles, reduces segregation, and dramatically stabilizes mine backfill. During mixing or emplacement flow is greatly enhanced due to its shear-thinning behavior.

This allows solids to be increased significantly and binder levels to be reduced. Acti-Gel® 208 continues to suspend particles under flow, which prevents segregation, reduces abrasion and eliminates blocking.

Acti-Gel® 208 – Cost Effective Solution for Underground Mine Hydraulic Backfill

Mine Seals

Acti-Gel® 208 is a thixotropic material that suspends particles, reduces segregation, and dramatically stabilizes concretes. During mixing or emplacement flow is greatly enhanced due to its shear-thinning behavior.

On removal of shear, the rate of thixotropic rebuilding of the lattice structure is exceptionally fast, which provides:

  1. Superior cohesion and reduced rebound
  2. Rapid development of green strength and shape stability
  3. Excellent anti-washout properties
  4. Reduction in hydrostatic pressure

When used in an optimized mix design, Acti-Gel® 208 has been shown to increase green strength, decrease rapid chloride permeability, and reduce efflorescence – all with outstanding stability and compaction.

Acti-Gel® 208 complies with ASTM C 494, Type S.

Slurry

Acti-Gel® 208 is a thixotropic material that suspends particles, reduces

Tailings

Acti-Gel® 208 is a thixotropic material that suspends particles, reduces segregation, and dramatically stabilizes high solids slurries. During mixing and transport, flow is greatly enhanced due to Acti-Gel® 208’s shear-thinning behavior. After the tailings are deposited in the tailings dam, Acti-Gel® 208 prevents segregation which enables better particle packing, denser beds, and improved water recovery.

Acti-Gel® 208 in Tailings

Portable Flow Loop

The PFL is a mobile unit that can be taken to our Customers Location for on-site demonstrations of how Acti-Gel® 208 works with the carrier fluid to prevent the coarse particles from settling/dragging on the bottom of the pipe. This results in increased flow rates and lower pressure loss, which enables reduced frictional losses and reduced pipe wear.

A schematic drawing of our PFL is shown below.

The Portable Flow Loop is housed in 2 – 20 ft. Containers:

  • Operator Container box weighs about 10,000 lbs.
  • Pump Container weighs 14,500 lbs.

The Portable Flow Loop contains the following Equipment:

Pipelines:

Two pipe diameters, 102mm (4”) and 154mm (6”) with approximately 9m (30′) of pipe in the loop.
Pump:
The flow loop system is equipped with a 75 HP Moyno progressive cavity positive displacement pump.
Electric:
The unit requires roughly 65 KW – 480V at 156A or 600V at 125A.
Instrumentation:

  • Four (4) Endress and Hauser industrial pressure transmitters.
  • One (1) Rosemount magnetic flow meter
  • Flow Loop RevC.vi software file customized for the mobile loop.
  • National Instruments (NI) LabVIEW Software & Instrumentation. Portable Flow Loop System.

Loop Volume:

  • Hopper volume = 0.8 M3 (28.3 FT3)
  • Pipe Loop Volume = 0.08 M3 (2.83 FT3)
  • Total Volume = 0.88 M3 (31.13 FT3)
